Job summary

The University of New Hampshire’s CARE center seeks a postdoctoral researcher to advance physics-based environmental and ocean modeling for an ONR-funded project in Durham, NH. You will develop numerical simulations of currents, tides, waves, temperature, salinity, and stratification, applying HYCOM, ROMS, FVCOM, and related models to support UUV operations and deliver actionable environmental information.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a related field, possess strong scientific computing

Qualifications

• PhD in a physically oriented ocean science field and strong modeling background.
• Experience with physics-based numerical modeling of ocean or related systems.
• Experience using HYCOM/ROMS/FVCOM or comparable models.
• Ability to conduct independent research with complex datasets.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and apply physics-based models to predict ocean conditions and support ONR objectives.
• Integrate model outputs with observational data and assess performance and uncertainties.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation and project reporting.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and coordinate research activities.
