Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medical Imaging & Deep Learning in New York City. The role is based in the Medical Intelligence Lab, within the Department of Diagnostic, Molecular, and Interventional Radiology, and reports to Dr. Xueyan Mei, PhD.

The position is in-person, full-time for a one-year term renewable. The fellow will design, train, and validate deep learning models on clinical imaging data, publish in leading venues, and

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Medical Physics, or closely related field (completed or defended before start).
• Demonstrated experience in medical imaging analysis (MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, OCT, fundus).
• Strong proficiency in PyTorch and modern deep learning workflows.
• Solid programming skills in Python and familiarity with NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn.
• Track record of peer-reviewed publications appropriate to career stage.
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train, and evaluate deep learning models for medical image analysis.
• Build reproducible experimental pipelines in PyTorch with data preprocessing and validation.
• Curate, clean, and manage imaging datasets with data governance and privacy in mind.
• Design and run experiments, analyze results, and iterate on models and training strategies.
• Write and publish first-author papers in peer-reviewed venues.
• Contribute to grant proposals, progress reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with clinical partners to define problems and ensure clinical relevance.
