Job description

Salary: $74,300.00 Annually

Location : 1 Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor- Main Campus

Job Type: Full Time

Job Number: 02299

Process Level: Scientific Laboratory

Department: Krainer Laboratory

Opening Date: 08/11/2026

Position Description

The laboratory of Dr. Adrian Krainer at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join an innovative research program and advance a research project focused on mechanistic dissection of a neurodevelopmental genetic disorder and preclinical development of antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapeutics.

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to a project investigating a genetic neurodevelopmental disorder that affects an RNA-binding protein involved in mRNA splicing. The project aims to characterize the genetic mechanisms of the disorder and the resulting splicing dysfunction, and to establish appropriate mouse models, with the ultimate goal of developing an RNA-targeted therapy.

This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of RNA biology, genetics, neurology, and ASO therapeutics development in a highly collaborative and translational research environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Establish and characterize mouse models, with the help of our Engineered Mouse Model Core Facility.
  • Evaluate transcriptome perturbations using next-gen sequencing analysis, RT-PCR, and qPCR.
  • Characterize mouse neurodevelopmental phenotypes, with expert advice from a behavioral neuroscientist.
  • Investigate structure-function relationships using disease-causing missense mutants and a variety of cell-based and biochemical functional assays.
  • Identify key downstream alternative splicing or expression changes as potential therapeutic targets, and develop appropriate ASOs to restore normal expression.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data and communicate findings through presentations, publications, and grant reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams working in RNA biology, ASO therapeutics, and translational research.
  • Mentor junior laboratory members as appropriate, and contribute to a collaborative research environment.
Position Requirements
Required
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, RNA Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a related field.
  • Strong record of scientific achievement demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience with molecular-biology techniques, including RNA analysis, gene-expression, and/or RNA-protein interaction studies.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with antisense oligonucleotides, RNA therapeutics, alternative splicing, or RNA biology.
  • Experience working with mouse models of disease.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing and bioinformatic analysis.
Supplemental Information
Research Environment

The Krainer laboratory is internationally recognized for pioneering discoveries in RNA biology, alternative splicing, and the preclinical development of RNA-targeted therapeutics for neurodegenerative disorders and cancer. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative scientific community dedicated to exploring biological mechanisms and advancing innovative treatments for human disease.
