Job description

The Position

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to study bacteria-host interactions in Man-Wah Tan's group in the Infectious Diseases and Host-Microbe Interactions at Genentech. Specifically, we are interested in elucidating the mechanisms by which bacterial factors, outer membrane vesicles, or biofilm interact with the host mucosal or barrier immunity to establish persistent colonization or infection. The successful applicant will have deep knowledge of and strong technical skills in immunology, microbial genetics, or microbe-host interactions. The postdoctoral fellow will initiate a research project to investigate interactions between commensal bacteria and/or pathogens and the host intestinal or respiratory mucosa at the molecular level. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work closely with a diverse scientific team that includes microbiologists, immunologists, cell biologists, and bioinformaticians.

Who You Are:

  • Recent PhD in microbiology, immunology, innate immunity, mammalian cell biology, or microbe-host interactions.
  • Experience in applying basic laboratory techniques related to these disciplines.
  • Experience with culturing and genetic manipulation of microbiota, immune cells, organoids, imaging, and microscopy techniques is a plus.
  • A record of innovative scientific accomplishments, evidenced by first-author publications in well-recognized peer-reviewed journals.
