Job summary

University of Michigan's Tai Lab, LSA BioPhysics, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Ann Arbor for a one-year appointment starting no later than 07/01/2027, with renewal possible based on performance and funding.

The fellow will study bacterial biofilms, employ imaging, microfluidics, and modeling to understand cellular heterogeneity and community evolution, and mentor students in a collaborative lab.]

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in biophysics, physics, quantitative biology, microbiology, engineering, systems biology, or a related field is required.
• Experience in biophysics, quantitative biology, microbiology, soft-matter physics, microscopy, or a related area is expected.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and scientific writing skills are expected.
• Experience in one or more of the lab's research approaches is welcome; not required to have all.

Responsibilities

• Develop and carry out independent and collaborative research on development, organization, function, and evolution of microbial communities.
• Involve quantitative single-cell imaging, microfluidics, bacterial genetics, systems biology, biophysical measurements, and/or computational modeling.
• Design and conduct experiments or develop theoretical approaches; analyze data and maintain records; prepare manuscripts for publication.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers and contribute to lab discussions and collaborations.
