Overview

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at Utah State University seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to support an interdisciplinary portfolio of research and teaching activities related to team science, artificial intelligence, human performance, eye tracking, geospatial analytics, and environmental decision-making.

The successful candidate will serve as a lead researcher on a newly funded Army Research Institute project investigating eye tracking, behavioral analytics, and human-environment interactions. The position will also support an ongoing Army Research Laboratory project focused on team science, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional development, coaching, workshop facilitation, scientific communication, and research evaluation.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to manuscript development, statistical and geospatial analyses, grant-related research activities, supervision of undergraduate and graduate research assistants, and instructional activities within the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.

Teaching responsibilities include instruction of courses focused on design innovation, emerging technologies, and generative artificial intelligence.

Responsibilities
Research (75%)
  • Serve as lead researcher on Army Research Institute-supported eye-tracking research.
  • Conduct quantitative, statistical, behavioral, spatial, and geospatial analyses.
  • Design and implement eye-tracking studies.
  • Support Army Research Laboratory-funded team science initiatives.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating workshops, coaching activities, and interdisciplinary collaboration programs.
  • Lead and co-author peer-reviewed journal publications.
  • Assist with proposal development and sponsored research activities.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants.
  • Present findings at professional conferences and workshops.
Teaching (25%)
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to:
  • Design innovation
  • Emerging technologies
  • Generative artificial intelligence
  • Research methods
  • Mentor student projects and independent research.
  • Assist with curriculum development and instructional innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. successfully defended before appointment start date.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methodologies.
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses.
  • Experience with GIS and spatial analysis.
  • Experience with eye-tracking research methodologies.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of successful teaching or instructional experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with geospatial modeling and advanced GIS.
  • Experience with eye-tracking hardware and software platforms.
  • Experience with R, Python, ArcGIS, or related analytical software.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning methods.
  • Experience supervising student researchers.
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Demonstrated success publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Record of proposal development or sponsored research participation.
