Job summary

The Bureau of Economic Geology at UT Austin invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Energy and Resource Systems. Join a team applying quantitative economics, geospatial analysis, and data science to evaluate large-load industrial growth in Texas, including data centers, oil and gas operations, and manufacturing.

You will build databases, run models, and prepare results for publication and policy briefings.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a quantitative field earned within 3 years from date of hire.
  • Strong record of research communication and peer-reviewed publications; ability to convey results to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with quantitative modeling and large databases; proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or Julia.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess resource, infrastructure, and demand requirements for large-load development; perform integrated geospatial analyses for siting and resource balance.
  • Build and apply quantitative and economic models to project energy and material demand under different scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain a data pipelines and databases powering COMPASS research; integrate multiple data sources.
  • Conduct independent research and develop grant proposals; contribute to reports, white papers, and policy briefs.
  • Present findings to COMPASS Industrial Affiliates, stakeholders, and policymakers at meetings and workshops.
