New York University, Center for Mind, Ethics, and Policy (CMEP) at NYU, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate. The role contributes to research on digital minds and develops an independent program within the Center’s focus areas.

The appointment is for one year starting Fall 2027, with renewal up to three years subject to performance and funding. The position is based in New York and onsite work is required; international applicants are welcome but NYU cannot support STEM

Qualifications

Applicants should have completed, or expect to complete before the start date, a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a field relevant to digital minds.
Successful candidates will demonstrate: an excellent record of research appropriate to their career stage; expertise relevant to nonhuman consciousness and welfare; the ability to conduct rigorous and original independent research; the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and perspectives; strong written and oral communication skills; interest in contributing to the center's development; broad alignment with the Center's mission.

Responsibilities

Conduct original research and publish papers, reports, and other publications individually and collaboratively.
Assist with grant proposals and develop new research projects and partnerships; help evaluate and recruit collaborators; help plan, host, and attend meetings among research teams.
