Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks a postdoctoral trainee to advance Food is Medicine and related cancer care research. You will design, implement, and evaluate food-based interventions for patients and survivors, coordinating with clinical and community partners.

Job description

This position supports Food is Medicine and related research within the institution, focused on the design, implementation, and evaluation of food-based interventions for patients with cancer and cancer survivors. Duties will include conducting systematic and scoping literature reviews; applying implementation science frameworks and methods to intervention design and evaluation; developing and executing qualitative studies; supporting clinical research operations; and coordinating with multidisciplinary clinical, community, and research teams.

The trainee will support Food is Medicine and lifestyle intervention research for patients with cancer and cancer survivors. Specific duties include:

• Assist with ongoing studies, including preparing study materials, coordinating with clinical and community partners, and managing study data.
• Lead evidence synthesis activities to inform intervention development and identify research gaps.
• Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and national conferences.
• Contribute to grant proposals and lead the development of an independent funding application, with mentorship on specific aims, study design, and budgets.
• Participate in mentorship meetings, research seminars, and career development activities to prepare for a faculty role.

All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the appointment, the trainee will be able to:

1. Conduct systematic and scoping reviews to synthesize evidence on Food is Medicine interventions in cancer care.
2. Apply implementation science frameworks to design and evaluate food-based interventions in oncology settings.
3. Design, conduct, and analyze qualitative and mixed methods studies with patients, clinicians, and community partners.
4. Manage clinical research operations, including IRB submissions, recruitment, and data management.
5. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical, community, and research teams.
6. Disseminate findings through first-author peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations.
7. Develop an independent line of research and gain grant-writing experience, including submitting at least one extramural application to support a transition to a faculty role.

• Training or demonstrated experience in implementation science methods and frameworks

POSITION INFORMATION

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000 depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
