Job summary

The Fluid Locomotion Laboratory at the New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate or senior research position in underwater attachment mechanics and bioinspired design. The position will begin as soon as October 2026.

The role focuses on developing and testing physical models of underwater attachment mechanisms, building on the group's work in biologically inspired attachment.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biology, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, or related area with experience in comparative biomechanics, robotics, and/or fluid dynamics is required
• Strong quantitative background including statistics and computer programming
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, shown by a strong publication record
• Excellent organizational, project management, data analysis and data management skills
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary work as part of a collaborative team
• Strong interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
