Job description

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life‑threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting‑edge research.

The van den Brink Laboratory is a leading research program focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate immune system development, regeneration, and function, with a particular emphasis on thymus biology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immune reconstitution, tolerance, and graft‑versus‑host disease. The Thymus Research Team investigates the cellular and molecular pathways that govern thymic regeneration and T cell development, with the goal of developing innovative therapies to restore immune competence in patients undergoing cancer treatment, hematopoietic cell transplantation, or other immune‑damaging interventions.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will contribute to cutting‑edge basic and translational research projects using mouse models, human samples, and state‑of‑the‑art immunological, molecular, and computational approaches. You will work within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment that integrates immunology, stem cell biology, oncology, and translational medicine to advance therapeutic strategies for immune regeneration.

As a successful candidate you will:

  • Design, execute, and analyze independent research projects focused on thymic biology, T cell development, immune regeneration, and transplantation immunology.

  • Utilize and develop advanced experimental approaches including multi‑parameter flow cytometry, cell sorting, mouse models, molecular biology techniques, and immune profiling assays.

  • Analyze and interpret complex datasets, including genomic, transcriptomic, and immunological data.

  • Present research findings at laboratory meetings, institutional seminars, and national/international scientific conferences.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer‑reviewed journals and contribute to grant applications and collaborative research initiatives.

  • Mentor graduate students, research technicians, and junior trainees as appropriate.

  • Collaborate effectively with investigators and research teams across immunology, transplantation, and cancer biology programs.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated research experience in immunology, thymus biology, hematopoiesis, stem cell biology, transplantation biology, cancer immunology, or a closely related discipline.

  • Strong hands‑on experience with flow cytometry, multicolor immune phenotyping, cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and/or mouse models.

  • Experience with bioinformatics, single‑cell sequencing analysis, spatial biology, or computational data analysis is desirable but not required.

  • Proven scientific productivity demonstrated through peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a highly interactive research environment.

  • Experience mentoring students or junior researchers is preferred.

  • No specific license or certification required.
