A major university in Austin is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct research in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) at the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. The role requires a Ph.D. in Physics and programming skills in Fortran, MATLAB, and C++. The ideal candidate will also have experience in experimental physics and a passion for mentoring students. The position offers a salary starting at $60,000, with flexible working hours from 7 am to 6 pm.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description

Develops new laboratory methods for the acquisition and interpretation of magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of porous rocks. Experience in experimental physics or similar field and experience with electronics, machine shop tools, designing and building experiments. Will provide assistance and guidance to several graduate and undergraduate students carrying out laboratory experiments.

Responsibilities

• Perform research in nuclear magnetic resonance at the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering.
• Research on nuclear magnetic resonance and novel NMR inversion algorithms.
• Research on NMR pulse sequencing and data acquisition software.
• Research on atomic, molecular, and optical physics.
• Research on NMR measurement interpretations found in spatially heterogeneous rocks.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics received within the last three years.
• Programming experience with Fortran, MATLAB and C++.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of post-doctoral experience.
• PhD in experimental physics or similar field.
• Experience with electronics, machine shop tools, designing and building experiments.
• Experience in teaching and/or research.

Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications
