Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, or a closely related field by the start date and have work spanning quantum field theory, string theory, and quantum gravity.
The newly established Carl Feinberg Institute for Theoretical Physics (CFITP) at New York University invites applications for the Feinberg Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship, beginning September 1, 2027. This is a three-year Postdoctoral Associate appointment with a competitive salary, an annual research and travel allowance, and full independence in choice of research direction.
CFITP's mission is to advance fundamental research at the intersection of particle theory, condensed matter theory, quantum information, and quantum gravity leveraging computational and AI methods where appropriate.
The Postdoctoral Associates will perform research within the scope of the CFITP. They are expected to pursue a vigorous research program, to engage across the Institute's research areas, and to participate in its seminars, workshops, and visitor program.
Postdoctoral Associates have access to the full resources of the NYU Department of Physics and to the broader New York theoretical physics community. Postdoctoral Associates are eligible for on-campus subsidized housing, subject to availability
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications in physics, mathematics, or a closely related field by the start date and should have received it no more than five years before September 1, 2027. We seek candidates working in any area within the Institute's scope, including quantum field theory, string theory and quantum gravity, particle phenomenology, strongly correlated and topological phases, nonequilibrium quantum dynamics, quantum information, and the application of computational and machine-learning methods to these problems. Candidates whose work bridges two or more of these areas are especially encouraged to apply.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500.00-$90,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.
