Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for a Post‑Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, School of Public Health. The fellow will join a federally funded program led by Dr. Nicholas Thomson to study gun violence, suicide, and related behavioral health topics.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and strong quantitative skills. Mentorship, manuscript development, grant writing, and opportunities to present nationally are provided.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by start date.
• Strong quantitative research skills and experience with behavioral health data.
• Peer‑reviewed publications demonstrating scientific writing expertise.
• Ability to lead or make substantial contributions to manuscripts.
• Experience with statistical software (R, SPSS, SAS, Stata, Mplus).

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
• Develop first‑author publications from existing and new data.
• Contribute to grant applications and fellowships.
• Develop research questions and run longitudinal, observational, experimental analyses.
• Conduct quantitative analyses of behavioral and public health data.
• Support design, implementation, and evaluation of gun violence and suicide studies.
• Present findings at local, national, and international meetings.
