Job summary

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education invites doctoral researchers to join a USDA ARS NWISRL project in Kimberly, Idaho. The role focuses on evaluating germplasm for disease resistance and stress tolerance, using cutting-edge genomic and omics approaches.

You will work on diverse accessions, gain hands-on experience in plant genomics, and contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations. This is a full-time ORISE appointment with a stipend and health insurance options.

Qualifications

• PhD or doctoral degree within last 5 years or anticipated by start date (Jan 4, 2027).
• Experience in agricultural science with greenhouse/field experiments, molecular/benchtop analyses, and bioinformatic analyses.

Responsibilities

• Participate in evaluating diverse sugar beet germplasm for resistance to beet curly top virus, Rhizomania, and early seedling freezing stress.
• Characterize cultivated and wild accessions using genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic techniques.
• Develop proficiency in scientific communication, including drafting manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and presenting research at conferences.
