Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to initiate and carry out research in Radiation Biodosimetry, Countermeasures and Combined Injury at AFRRI/USUHS in Bethesda, MD.

The fellow will conduct in vitro and in vivo studies, apply molecular biology techniques, manage data, and assist in manuscript development. One-year appointment with potential extension depending on funding.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree required, biology related field highly preferred.
• Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
• Knowledge of molecular and cell biology and related laboratory techniques.
• Experience with DNA and RNA extraction and purification, qPCR/RT-PCR analysis, mammalian cell culture, and protein analysis including Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, cytokine assays and ELISA.
• Experience with laboratory animal handling (mice) and related procedures.
• Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Responsibilities

• Conducts in vitro and in vivo studies to investigate biomarkers of radiation exposure and injury and to evaluate candidate radiation medical countermeasures.
• Performs experimental procedures involving laboratory animals (mice) including handling, treatments, blood/tissue collection and processing.
• Maintains accurate records and documents experimental data and SOPs.
• Analyzes data using statistical and software tools and contributes to manuscripts and presentations.
• Supports development of manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific communications.
