Brigham Young University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry & Biochemistry to develop polymer-based protein mimics for encapsulating biologically relevant molecules.

The role includes leading synthesis, evaluating copolymerization, studying encapsulation and activity, and performing cryogenic electron microscopy to determine size and morphology, with opportunities for collaboration and grant support.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. completed by start date; chemistry preferred with organic or polymer emphasis.
• Strong background in organic/polymer synthesis including air-free methods.
• Experience with soft matter self-assembly and cryogenic electron microscopy.
• Experience with protein-based assays and interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Mentoring undergraduate/graduate researchers.

Responsibilities

• Lead synthesis of cyclic carbonate monomers for ring-opening polymerization.
• Evaluate copolymerization using NMR and GPC.
• Study protein encapsulation and activity.
• Perform cryo-EM on polymer-protein samples.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication and present research at conferences.
• Assist with grant writing and progress reports.
