Job summary

HHMI’s Schulze Lab in Ashburn is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to fuse systems neuroscience with computer vision, pose-tracking, and VR technologies. The role integrates hardware and software to study neural circuits underlying social behavior in Danionella, using multi-animal tracking and brain-behavior maps.

You’ll design VR paradigms, analyze large datasets, and contribute to publications within an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in neuroscience, computer science, engineering, or a closely related field.
• Hybrid background bridging software-hardware integration with computational and ML skills.

Responsibilities

• Design VR systems and paradigms for naturalistic, socially rich stimuli.
• Write software to integrate ML-based approaches for multi-animal studies.
• Develop experiments to investigate neural circuits underlying social behavior and inter-individual differences.
• Analyze multivariate whole-brain activity, behavior and stimulus data with computational methods.
• Prepare technical reports and maintain familiarity with current literature in systems neuroscience and VR-based behavioral neuroscience.
• Collaborate with the lab's VR specialist and the Janelia community.
