Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) at Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, VA seeks a Postdoctoral Scientist blending systems neuroscience, computer-vision, pose-tracking, ML, and VR to advance brain-behavior maps in social behavior using multi-animal tracking and VR paradigms.

You will design experiments, integrate hardware/software, analyze neural circuits, and collaborate across a diverse team while contributing to publications and attending conferences.

Qualifications

• PhD in neuroscience, computer science, engineering or related field.
• Hybrid background in software-hardware integration and ML with neuroscience grounding.
• Experience building or working with VR systems for behavioral neuroscience.
• Ability to develop independent methods and evaluate criteria.

Responsibilities

• Design VR systems and paradigms to present naturalistic, socially rich stimuli.
• Write software to integrate ML-based approaches for multi-animal studies.
• Develop experiments investigating neural circuits underlying social behavior.
• Analyze multivariate brain, behavioral, and stimulus data with computational methods.
• Prepare technical reports and maintain familiarity with literature.
• Collaborate with VR specialist and HHMI/Janelia team.
