Job summary

Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Translational Neuroscience in collaboration with CUIMC/Columbia University. The role focuses on genetic risk, early-life adversity, and hippocampal mechanisms underlying depression through large-scale neuroimaging and genomic analyses.

The successful candidate will guide day-to-day project execution, mentor students, and present findings at scientific meetings.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience, epidemiology, psychology, genomics, bioinformatics or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with R or Python or similar data analytic software

Responsibilities

  • Investigate how early life events interact with hippocampal gene expression-based polygenic scores to assess risk for depression.
  • Lead day-to-day execution of the project under Dr. van Dijk's guidance, focusing on analysis of existing datasets.
  • Collaborate with neuroscientists, statisticians, genomics and epidemiology researchers.
  • Perform literature reviews on the topic.
  • Conduct genomic analyses across mouse and human datasets, including WGCNA on RNA-seq data.
  • Secondary analyses of neuroimaging markers with respect to genetic and environmental risk factors.
  • Analyze data and interpret results; mentor students and staff.
  • Present data in oral and written formats.
  • Maintain flexible schedule to meet deadlines.
