The University of Mississippi’s Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in robotics and AI to join Dr. Xiaopeng Zhao’s group.

You will apply robotics expertise to real hardware on testbeds and contribute to proposal development and mentoring of graduate students. We welcome candidates from across engineering and CS with expertise in perception, control, learning, planning, manipulation, navigation, and human–robot interaction, aiming to

Qualificações

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field by appointment.
• Experience in robotics or autonomous systems (manipulation, navigation, perception, planning, etc.).
• Hands-on experience building or deploying robotic systems on physical hardware (ROS/ROS 2).
• Proficiency in Python and modern ML tools (PyTorch), and systems-level programming (C++/ROS).
• Strong publication record with at least one first-authored paper and excellent English communication.

Responsabilidades

• Develop, implement, and deploy robotics and AI methods on real hardware.
• Ensure reliability and deployability: validation, testing, runtime monitoring, and safety cases for real-world use.
• Lead publications, present at leading venues, and co-develop proposals.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and build reusable testbeds.
• Collaborate with clinical, industrial, and academic partners across disciplines.
