Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory in Farmington, CT, seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study how gut bacteria interact with patient-derived epithelial tissues, shaping cellular states and disease susceptibility. Colorectal cancer will be a primary model, with organoid- and chip-based approaches to explore host-microbiome dynamics.

Ideal candidates have organ-on-a-chip or microfluidics experience and a track record in GI biology, cancer biology, or epithelial plasticity, plus strong molecular

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in bioengineering, microbiology, cell biology, cancer biology, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience in cell and tissue engineering and 3D organoid culture.
  • Experience with organ-on-a-chip technologies, microfluidics, and host-microbiome coculture is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in microscopy, immunofluorescence, gene-expression analysis and functional assays.
  • Experience in GI biology, host-microbiome interactions, cancer biology, epithelial plasticity, or aging is preferred.
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain patient-derived intestinal organoids, including nonmalignant and colorectal cancer tissues.
  • Integrate organoid epithelia into advanced microphysiological gut-on-a-chip models.
  • Design and conduct controlled bacterial-epithelial coculture experiments.
  • Apply microscopy, gene-expression analysis, and quantitative functional assays to study epithelial states and functions.
  • Integrate functional studies with transcriptomic and other profiling approaches; contribute to publications and collaborative projects.
