Job summary

Kansas State University in Kansas is seeking a highly qualified scientist to lead laboratory work on wheat blast pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae pathotype Triticum (MoT). You will design and execute lab and controlled-environment experiments, integrate data for biosafety assessments, and contribute to cross-disciplinary biosecurity research.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or Mycology, with experience in fungal pathogens and molecular biology, plus strong

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Mycology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with fungal pathogens and molecular biology.
  • Laboratory and molecular skills including diagnostic assays, plant inoculation, and fungal culturing.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and controlled-environment experiments.
  • Characterize pathogen survival, spread, and reproductive capacity.
  • Perform molecular, genomic, and diagnostic analyses as appropriate.
  • Data analysis and interpretation within a risk assessment context.
  • Prepare manuscripts, reports, and project documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with BSL-3 containment and biosecurity protocols.
  • Collaborate with a multi-institutional research team and assist in mentoring students as needed.
