Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) invites a postdoctoral researcher to join the Energy Systems Engineering Group. The role centers on power systems operations, grid security, and emerging dynamics in a collaborative, multi-institutional setting.

Expect publication, proposal contributions, and active dialogue with industry and academia. The successful candidate will bring a PhD in electrical engineering or related field, with MATLAB/Python skills and experience in grid

Qualifications

• PhD in electrical engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Python.
• Hands-on experience with protection relays, MPLS or fiber optic nodes, routers, firewalls.
• Experience with communications simulation software such as ns-3 or related impairment test equipment.
• Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative, technically rigorous research approaches for modern power system dynamics, grids, and electrified transportation.
• Collaborate with diverse researchers to contribute to grid solutions for the future.
• Execute research tasks with increasing independence and manage small, defined technical efforts.
• Contribute to journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports; present findings to audiences.
• Support new research ideas and assist in proposal preparation to expand capabilities.
