Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Laboratory for Energy and Organizations (LEO) within the Department of Engineering and Public Policy (EPP). The position focuses on industrial innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional energy and economic transformation in western PA and WV.

The successful candidate will conduct interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research, contribute to the Industrial Futures Project and RETI Consortium, and collaborate

Qualifications

  • PhD by the time the appointment begins in engineering, public policy, economics, management, operations research, energy systems, or a related field.
  • Strong record of interdisciplinary, empirical, or quantitative research relevant to the position.
  • Experience with econometrics, quantitative analysis, operations research, regional economic analysis, energy-systems analysis, or related methods.
  • Strong data-analysis and programming skills using Python, R, Stata, or comparable software.
  • Ability to develop research questions and execute projects independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with interest in publication and engagement with partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an evidence base and analyze drivers of new business success and technology and energy systems change in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
  • Investigate regional innovation ecosystems to support commercialization and scaling of new technologies.
  • Apply econometrics, regional economics, techno-economic analysis, or energy-systems methods to research questions.
  • Collaborate with CMU faculty, RETI partners, and a broad network of collaborators.
