Job summary

The University of Notre Dame invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Models of Coupled Natural and Human Systems. This full‑time, in‑person role supports the Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative and involves fieldwork in Peru, remote sensing analysis, and development of mechanistic models with strong quantitative focus.

The appointment is for 12 months with potential renewal.

Qualifications

• PhD in Forest Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Conservation Biology, or related field with strong quantitative focus.
• Strong computational skills, data analysis, machine learning, modeling, and programming in Python, R, MATLAB or similar.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork in Peru and communicate research concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Carry out spatial analysis of Peru forest cover change using remote sensing products.
• Use an existing computational model of forest dynamics to evaluate ecological consequences.
• Carry out field work in Peru as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Communicate research results to policymakers and stakeholders.
• Present findings at conferences and contribute to journal publications.
