Job summary

The University of Virginia’s Environmental Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance a Climate and Power Systems project, applying machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning and optimization to resilient, climate-aware power-system planning. The candidate will work with faculty mentors, researchers, and industry partners on real-world constraints and adaptive strategies.

Starting salary is $70,700 per year with two years of support, mentoring from multiple UVA

Qualifications

• PhD or Doctoral degree by start of appointment.
• Strong background in power systems, ML, and optimization.
• Familiarity with RL or multi-agent systems is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication, with publication and conference experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop a robust MARL framework for expansive, transitional, and resilient power systems under climate uncertainty.
• Collaborate with UVA faculty, industry partners, and a diverse research team to apply real-world constraints.
• Model power-system complexities and climate-driven uncertainties for policy-relevant insights.
