Job summary

Washington State University Tri-Cities invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month, fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Richland, WA. The role focuses on biomass processing, wood chemistry, and sustainable materials development within the Plant Macromolecular Research Group.

You will apply experimental design, materials characterization, and data analysis to create innovative, economically viable processes and advanced materials from renewable biomass.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Wood Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated research experience in biomass conversion, lignocellulosic materials, polymers, fibers, or related areas.
• Strong skills in experimental design, laboratory research, data analysis, and scientific writing.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize biomass fractionation and pulping processes.
• Produce and modify cellulose fibers and lignin-derived materials.
• Develop fiber-based and polymeric materials; evaluate structure and performance.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations and publish findings.
