Job summary

Boston College is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Biomedical Imaging and Instrumentation Lab in the Engineering Department to advance AI-enabled ultrasound image analysis for body composition and growth in preterm infants. The role focuses on analytic and machine learning components across a multi-site NIH NICHD study.

You will work with clinical investigators at Brigham and Women's Hospital, the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, and the Boston College Connell

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong research background in machine learning, computer vision, or medical image analysis.
• Experience with clinical or healthcare data preferred; longitudinal or multimodal data integration a plus.
• Publications in AI/ML or biomedical imaging venues.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Ability to work across engineering/computational and clinical disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead data analysis and predictive modeling integrating ultrasound, clinical, and maternal data across two sites.
• Apply advanced AI/ML methods, including computer vision for real-time scan quality feedback, longitudinal trajectory modeling, and uncertainty quantification.
• Maintain reproducible, well-documented analysis pipelines and code for public release.
• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate research students.
• Interpret results in clinical context with investigators to ensure rigor and relevance.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and proposal development.
