Job summary

The Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (ISEE) at Ohio University seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance carbon-based materials and carbon foam production from ore. You will lead fabrication development, characterize materials, and work with faculty, students, and industry partners to translate fundamental research into scalable technologies.

The position requires a PhD and offers a 12-month term with renewal pending funding.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a related field.
• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, processing, and fabrication of advanced carbon-based materials, with emphasis on carbon-metal composites and carbon foam produced from carbon ore.
• Develop and optimize fabrication methods and process parameters to improve material quality and performance.
• Characterize processed materials to assess microstructure, properties, and performance.
• Collaborate with faculty, students, and industry partners to scale up production and transfer findings.
• Prepare technical reports and manuscripts for journals and sponsors; contribute to proposals as needed.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate student researchers; maintain lab safety and organization.
