  • Work on yeast projects to explore chromosome segregation during meiosis and mitosis.
  • Support mammalian cell projects studying chromosome segregation mechanisms.
  • Gain hands-on experience in experimental design, techniques, and data analysis.
  • Inventory lab supplies and place orders.

Postbaccalaureate Research Scholar - Dawson Lab

Position Overview and Responsibilities This Postbaccalaureate Research Scholar opportunity in the Dawson Lab at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is designed as an anticipated two-year training experience for students seeking hands‑on experience to strengthen their preparation for graduate school in STEM fields. Scholars will receive close mentorship, professional development, and opportunities to engage in the scientific community through:

  • Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
  • Participation in graduate-level workshops and seminars focused on skill building and career development
  • Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists on navigating graduate school and scientific careers
  • Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings, as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing media and maintaining laboratory stocks of solutions and reagents for the lab

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent (within the last 3 years) BA/BS degree in a STEM field, such as the biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, or computer science, and a desire to gain research experience in preparation for applications to graduate or professional schools in STEM related areas.

    Recent (within the last 6 months) master’s degree in a STEM field, such as the biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, or computer science, and a desire to gain research experience in preparation for applications to graduate or professional schools in STEM related areas.
  • Commitment to interactive, collaborative, team science
  • Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained
  • Must be organized, willing to learn and take direction, keep meticulous records, and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous computational or wet lab experience is desirable but not required

Work Hours Typically, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00PM.
