Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a post-bachelor’s research associate to advance data acquisition, instrument control, and data processing for spatial and mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) technologies at EMSL, onsite in Richland, WA. The role focuses on speeding up high-throughput experiments by removing bottlenecks in data handling.

The candidate will develop pipelines and software for processing large MSI datasets, work closely with mass spectrometry scientists, and apply

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree within the last 24 months or next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• Strong foundation in mass spectrometry and data analysis.
• Experience with scripting/programming (Python) for data processing and instrument acquisition software.
• Ability to use AI frontier models (Claude, ChatGPT) to support technical work.
• Experience handling large, high-throughput datasets; interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Streamline from instrument control to analysis-ready results for imaging data.
• Build and refine processing pipelines, scripts, and tools for large MSI datasets.
• Develop software to improve data acquisition and automate steps at capture time.
• Collaborate with MS scientists to optimize workflows and data quality.
• Leverage AI models to accelerate coding, exploration, and troubleshooting.
