Base pay range: $30,563.52/yr

Description

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect citizens and provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for staff and offenders, facilitating non-criminal behavior and skill acquisition.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between the institution and the U.S. Postal Service regarding related issues.
  • Oversee the sorting of inmate and public mail, magazines, newspapers, etc., and distribute them within the institution.
  • Operate postal equipment such as electronic scales and meters for weighing and postage.
  • Investigate complaints of missing or lost mail and packages.
  • Compute daily postage charges, operate computer and printer systems, and maintain logs.
  • Load and unload mail.
  • Maintain contact with the U.S. Postal Service regarding changes to rules and procedures.
  • Manage the distribution and delivery of legal mail, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Send daily memos to Unit Administrators for legal mail pickup.

The ideal candidate should have customer service and organizational skills, with the ability to work professionally, plan effectively, pay attention to detail, think critically, and analyze data. Ability to work well in a team and adapt to changing needs is essential.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High school diploma.

Experience, Training, or Skills: None required.

Substitutions: None.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and any required licensure or certification for the duration of employment. The employing agency is responsible for ensuring these are maintained.

Working Conditions

This role requires daily travel to pick up and deliver mail.
