Overview
Post Doctoral Scholar position in the Carpenter Nanoparticle Spectroscopy Group, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The Ohio State University. The postdoctoral researcher will perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles.
Responsibilities
- Perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles.
- Work independently on research projects decided on jointly by the postdoctoral fellow and the PI, and generate data and insights for scientific publication and presentation at professional meetings.
- Establish single-particle microscopy and spectroscopy infrastructure, including sample preparation protocols and construction of optical microscopes designed for single-particle and single-molecule measurements.
- Assist with the general development of the lab, including assisting with funding proposals and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation protocols, optical techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication.
Qualifications
- Required: PhD in chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, or other related discipline. Experience in spectroscopy and imaging in molecular systems, as demonstrated by scientific publications in the field.
- Required skills include operation and alignment of laser instrumentation, and programming experience in MATLAB/Python/LabVIEW for data analysis and software experimental control.
- Strong written and oral communications skills, interpersonal skills for collaborative science and mentorship, problem-solving skills, ability to learn new research techniques, and ability to generate new research ideas.
