Job summary

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Emmanuel Zorn’s lab at the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) to study the mechanisms underlying chronic rejection after human kidney transplantation.

The project will leverage well-characterized human transplant specimens and clinical samples to identify biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets that could improve diagnosis and treatment. The selected candidate will work with primary human cells and utilize techniques such as

Qualifications

• PhD in Immunology, Molecular Medicine, or related field; postdoc experience preferred with first-author publication.
• Strong experimental skills in human immunology and transplant biology.
• Familiarity with flow cytometry, in vitro immunoassays, gene expression analysis, and isolation/culture of immune cells.

Job description

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Emmanuel Zorn’s lab at the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) to study the mechanisms underlying chronic rejection after human kidney transplantation. The research will primarily examine the role of graft-infiltrating immune cells and circulating graft-reactive antibodies in different subtypes of rejection. The project will leverage well-characterized human transplant specimens and clinical samples to identify mechanisms, biomarkers, and potential therapeutic targets that could improve the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of chronic kidney allograft rejection. This NIH-funded study provides a unique opportunity to engage in patient-focused translational research at a premier transplant center and contribute to improving clinical outcomes. Experimental approaches will include primary human cell culture, ELISA, ELISPOT, protein assays, RNA-seq, single-cell genomic approaches, and functional cell-based assays. The applicant will also be involved in collaborative projects across the CCTI. The CCTI is a multidisciplinary research center with affiliations across multiple departments and research centers at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

We are seeking a creative, independent and driven individual with documented research experience related to this position. The candidate should have a recent PhD in Immunology, Molecular Medicine, or a related field, with a proven track record of productivity (at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal is expected). In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate creativity, a strong work ethic, motivation, the ability to manage multiple projects, and the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with flow cytometry, in vitro immunoassays, gene expression analysis, and the isolation and culture of immune cells is highly desirable.
