Job summary

The Loyola University Chicago laboratory of Dr. Rama Shankar invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a new program on systems immunology and multi-omics approaches to sepsis, MODS, and critical illness.

You will lead projects integrating single-cell and bulk data with clinical information to uncover immune mechanisms and biomarkers of progression. Ideal candidates hold MD or PhD and have experience with Python/R, single-cell analyses, and HPC.

Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Rama Shankar at Loyola University Chicago is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a newly established research program focused on systems immunology and multi-omics approaches to study sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and critical illness. The successful candidate will lead innovative projects integrating single-cell and bulk transcriptomics, epigenomics, and clinical data to identify immune mechanisms and biomarkers associated with disease progression and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead independent and collaborative research projects
• Analyze and integrate multi-omics datasets
• Develop computational pipelines using R/Python

• Prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant applications

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

• MD or PhD required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with bench work
• Experience with single-cell and multi-omics integration
• Familiarity with RNA‑seq, EdgeR, Seurat, Harmony, Monocle3, or scVelo
• Knowledge of immunology
• Experience with clinical datasets and HPC
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Demonstrated problem‑solving and organizational skills

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

• MD or PhD required
• The doctoral students should hold a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Immunology, or a related field

Computer Skills

• General office suite and willingness to learn lab specific programs
• Strong programming skills in R and/or Python
• Experience with Next Generation sequencing
• Record of peer‑reviewed publications

Position Salary Range: $62,232 to $75,564 per annum.
