Position Summary

The Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (CSTR) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to carry out original research in solar flare physics.

Essential Functions
  • The successful candidate will utilize radio observations from the Owens Valley Solar Arrays, including the Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array (EOVSA) and the Long Wavelength Array at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO-LWA), together with complementary multi-wavelength data from ground-based and spaceborne observatories, to investigate energy release and particle acceleration in solar eruptive events.
  • The researcher will also have the opportunity to participate in multi-institutional collaborations on joint observation–model studies of solar eruptions and energetic particles, contribute to EOVSA and OVRO-LWA operations, and engage in the development of next-generation solar radio instrumentation
Prerequisite Qualifications
  • Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, space physics, or a closely related field.
  • The successful candidate should have experience in analyzing solar data, a solid understanding of basic solar physics, plasma physics, and radiative transfer, and working knowledge of Python in Linux and/or macOS environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with radio interferometry and synthesis imaging is desirable but not required.
