Position Summary

The Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQuIC) at the University of New Mexico invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships in theoretical quantum information science (QIS) as part of the National Science Foundation’s Focused Research Hub in Theoretical Physics (FRHTP). CQuIC is an interdisciplinary QIS research center with faculty from physics, chemistry, electrical and computer engineering, and computer science. Its research covers quantum computation, control, measurement, communication, and simulation. CQuIC participates in several multi‑institutional centers launched under the National Quantum Initiative (NQI), including the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute “Quantum Systems through Entangled Science and Engineering” (Q-SEnSE) and the DOE “Quantum Systems Accelerator” (QSA). As a theory hub, CQuIC hosts seminars, workshops, and serves as the scientific home of the Southwest Quantum Information and Technology (SQuInT) network. FRHTP Postdoctoral Fellows will pursue independent research, work with CQuIC faculty, collaborate with partner institutions such as Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Honeywell Quantum Solutions, and participate in hub activities such as hot‑topics workshops.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a discipline related to QIS completed by the start of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of research accomplishment in QIS theory.
  • Potential to conduct significant research as a CQuIC postdoctoral fellow.
  • Potential to contribute to center‑wide research training and FRHTP hub activities.
  • Potential to work productively with CQuIC faculty and partners.
  • Specific interest in CQuIC research areas.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, and ability to work with broadly diverse communities.
