Post Doctoral Fellow

Job Summary

The Balsam lab at Barnard College is hiring a post-doctoral fellow to assist on a NIMH funded project studying the neural bases of anticipation and timing. This position will begin on June 1, 2025 and end on May 31, 2026.

Job Description

Job Duties are described below:

• Implement research plan provided by PI which includes designing and conducting proposed experiments, data analysis and publication.
• Establish and maintain collaboration with other scientists to develop new techniques to implement in the laboratory.
• Supervise research assistants in all aspects of their work.
• Develop a line of research independent from, but complementary to that of the Principle Investigator. The line of research should be of sufficient depth and quality to enable the candidate to compete successfully for selective academic or research positions and to apply for independent external funding.
  
  

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements

• Doctorate in Psychology and/or Neuroscience is required.
• Knowledge of behavioral neuroscience is essential as well as experience in behavioral testing, behavioral pharmacology and quantitative analysis of behavior. Experience with photometry and optogenetics is desirable.
• Evidence of potential as an independent researcher based on publications, presentations at scientific conference, and letters of recommendation from scientists able to judge the candidate’s potential for independent research.
  
  

Salary: $70,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
