Posting SummaryThe Zhao laboratory studies how nutrition modulates the gut microbiota and affects human health. The immediate goal of this IFNH seed grant-sponsored research program is to study how a prebiotic formula with Investigational New Drug Status modulates the gut microbiota and improves symptoms in acute phase COVID-19 patients. The project will also utilize gnotobiotic animal models and ex-vivo systems to investigate carbon flow networks during human gut microbiota interactions with carbohydrates. The position offers research experience in nutritional science, data generation from ex vivo systems, gnotobiotic animal models, and human clinical trials using metagenomics, metaproteomics, metabolomics, and multi-omics microbiome analysis. The postdoc will collaborate within the Center for Nutrition, Microbiome and Health at IFNH and other departments at Rutgers University.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and ExperiencePh.D. in nutrition, microbiome studies, or related field. Experience with animal handling and stable isotope probing is desirable. Fluency in English. Position is for one year with potential renewal, salary based on experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong credentials in microbiology, especially microbial ecology. Experience in mechanistic diet-microbiome research, e.g., stable isotope probing, is preferred.
Equipment UtilizedStandard laboratory equipment for biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology experiments; software including Excel, Word, and statistical analysis tools.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentRecord keeping, data analysis, manuscript preparation, equipment maintenance, inventory, safety compliance, and training responsibilities.
