Job description

Post‑Doctoral Associate – Woodson

Position Posted at the University of Georgia within the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS). The role is a research post‑doctoral associate focused on developing groundwater models for southeast and coastal Georgia and assessing the economic, ecological, and social impacts of groundwater along the Georgia coastal region.


Location: Athens, GA. Salary: $55,000–$75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Start Date: 02 Jan 2025. Duration: 1 year renewable up to 4 years.


Responsibilities


  • Develop a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia and run future climate and development scenarios.

  • Co‑develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social impacts related to groundwater along the Georgia coastal region.

  • Participate in community outreach activities along the Georgia coastal region.

  • Support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Co‑author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written or video materials.

  • Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with project PIs regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory.


Qualifications


  • PhD in economics, civil, or environmental engineering, or related field completed by January 2025.

  • Experience in modeling with Visual ModFlow Flex 8 or other ModFlow versions.

  • Expertise in geospatial methods, data analysis and visualization.

  • Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.

  • Expertise in coupled human‑environment systems; record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals; and experience communicating to diverse audiences.


Background

Employment Type: Employee. Schedule: Standard university business hours (M‑F), 40 hours/week.
