The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month Postdoctoral Associate position. The Postdoctoral Associate will join an NIH-funded research team advancing data-driven rehabilitation for patients post-stroke. The project focuses on developing a rehabilitation-specific data ontology and ontology-based natural language processing algorithms, building predictive models that generate personalized rehabilitation recommendations to maximize functional outcomes, and validating those models through a pilot clinical trial and deployment with partner health systems.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in physical therapy, health and rehabilitation sciences, or another related field.
This position offers a hybrid work option, combining on-campus and remote work.
In the primary role, the Postdoctoral Associate will serve as the team’s rehabilitation expert, contributing to the development of the ontology and predictive models and later supporting recruitment, enrollment, and trial management for the pilot study. The Postdoctoral Associate will report to the grant’s Principal Investigator, who will also conduct the annual performance evaluation.
In the secondary role, the Postdoctoral Associate will assist with instruction in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, supporting residential and/or hybrid courses within their areas of expertise, such as the Evidence-Based Practice series, Professional Development and Leadership series, Anatomy, Kinesiology, Growth and Development, and Pediatrics. Responsibilities include supporting course coordinators with lectures and laboratory instruction, grading, developing course materials in Canvas or other technologies, and assisting with general course management. Feedback from course coordinators and students will be incorporated into the annual performance evaluation.
