POST Certified Deputy Sheriff (Patrol/Detentions Lateral)

Join to apply for the POST Certified Deputy Sheriff (Patrol/Detentions Lateral) role at Jefferson County, Colorado.

Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties to enforce laws and safeguard residents' rights. Coordinates with investigators, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Reports to a Sergeant.

Division-specific duties:
  • Patrol Services Division: Responds to calls, investigates crimes, mediates disputes, patrols, enforces traffic laws, collects evidence, and testifies in court.
  • Detentions Services Division: Manages inmate classification, supervises inmates, maintains security, manages visitation and inmate activities, and operates detention security systems.

Essential Functions:

Includes responding to incidents, investigating crimes, patrolling, enforcing laws, making arrests, evidence collection, report writing, court appearances, and inter-agency cooperation. Division-specific duties include inmate management and security operations.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years patrol experience for lateral candidates from similar agencies; experience matched 1:1.
  • POST certification and valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to operate law enforcement equipment and vehicles; meet physical and mental standards.
Knowledge & Skills:

Modern law enforcement practices, laws, criminal investigation techniques, and computer skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively, and maintain discipline and professionalism.
