Job summary

Hosanna! Lutheran Church in St. Charles, IL seeks a called and ordained Lead Pastor to guide our ministry after a season of pastoral transition. This spiritual leader will cast vision, oversee staff, and shepherd a growing congregation.

Position Overview

Hosanna! Lutheran Church, a vibrant, growing congregation affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), seeks a called and ordained Lead Pastor to guide our ministry after this season of pastoral transition.

Key Responsibilities

Preaching and Worship Leadership

• Encourage and inspire the congregation through Biblically grounded sermons that proclaim the Gospel and connect God’s Word to daily life.
• Lead weekend and seasonal worship services as required by the Church Council.
• Oversee worship life in collaboration with staff.
• Serve Communion weekly.

Pastoral Care and Discipleship

• Provide pastoral care to members and the community as needed.
• Officiate sacraments, weddings, funerals, confirmations, infant baptisms, etc.
• Offer instruction and visit the sick and distressed.

Leadership and Team Development

• Serve as Head of Staff and visionary leader.
• Empower staff, council, and volunteers.
• Make disciples for Christ where every member is a minister engaged in ministry.
• Seek out and encourage qualified persons to prepare for the ministry of the Gospel.

Evangelism, Outreach, and Administration

• Champion evangelism and community engagement striving to extend the Kingdom of God into the congregation, community, the nation and abroad.
• Teach Biblical stewardship.

In addition, each pastor called to Hosanna! shall perform duties as outlined in their call description within the life of Hosanna! including, but not limited to:

• Be available to supervise all schools and organizations of Hosanna!
• Install regularly elected members of the Congregation Council.
• With the knowledge of the Congregation Council offices, administer member discipline.

Qualifications

Theological and Ordination

• AM.Div. or equivalent degree is preferred but not required. Candidates should be ordained or eligible for ordination in LCMC or a compatible church body.
• In keeping with LCMC’s permitted clergy practices, Hosanna! may call and ordain the following qualified individuals:
• A certified pastor, defined as:
• a member of the LCMC clergy roster; or
• a candidate for the LCMC clergy roster.
• a contract pastor, defined as an individual who is not on the LCMC clergy roster.
• Subscribe to LCMC Statement of Faith and Lutheran Confessions.

Experience and Skills

• Proven pastoral leadership in a similar setting.
• Strong preaching, relational, and team leadership skills.
