Position Summary

The Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church will provide spiritual leadership, Biblical preaching, pastoral care, and collaborative guidance for the congregation. The ideal candidate will be approachable and committed to strengthening both established ministries and future growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Preaching and Worship Leadership

• Prepare and deliver Biblically-grounded sermons with a clear application to daily life
• Lead traditional Lutheran worship services
• Provide spiritual nourishment and encouragement through preaching

Pastoral Care

• Offer compassionate visitation, counseling, prayer, and support
• Shepherd members through life events and spiritual growth

Leadership and Administration

• Collaborate with church staff, council, and volunteers
• Support and strengthen existing ministries
• Help shape and communicate a Spirit-led vision for the future

Community and Youth Engagement

• Connect with children, teens, and families
• Build and support a youth ministry and encourage intergenerational involvement
• Engage with the Newberg community through outreach and presence

Qualifications

Required

• Ordination recognized by LCMC (or willingness to pursue recognition)
• Strong Biblical knowledge and preaching ability
• Demonstrated pastoral experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to relational, compassionate shepherding

Preferred

• 5–10 years of ministry experience
• Experience as a lead pastor or in growing a congregation
• Ability to relate well to youth and families
• Approachable, relaxed interpersonal style
• Collaborative and organized leader

Compensation is commensurate with experience and aligned with LCMC guidelines.
