JOB SUMMARY
This position manages and oversees the school's activity program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare a master sports calendar for games, events and practices.
- Be familiar with the gym, building and athletic field use.
- Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field.
- Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trip sheets.
- Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams and coaches.
- Schedule officials for all athletic contests.
- Secure game workers for athletic contests, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc. and submit the list of workers for that contest to the event supervisor prior to the event.
- Submit athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other workers to district office.
- Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed.
- Maintain First Aid/CPR and Concussion Training records for all coaches.
- Hold coaches meetings as well as family meetings before each season to share information about sportsmanship and player/parent expectations.
- Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
- Assist in the selection of coaches for the athletic program.
- Assist in evaluations of all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the building principal.
- Complete an evaluation form and hold a conference with all coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season in partnership with the principal.
- Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches, players and parents.
- Collect and maintain on file a properly completed physicals activities paperwork for every student participating in athletics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior successful experience working in a school setting or with children strongly preferred.
- Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.
- Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work with children.
- Experience in coaching or working with middle level student.
