Job summary

Affordable Language Services in Cincinnati seeks Portuguese interpreters for in-person appointments in the Greater Portland area. You will provide interpreting services as an independent contractor, serving students, patients, and community organizations.

Fluency in English and Portuguese is required, along with eligibility to work in the US. Training tests may be required; background check and drug screen may be requested. Remote work is possible on occasion.

Qualifications

• Fluent bilingual in English and Portuguese; language test may be required if training proof is unavailable.
• U.S. I-9 work authorization is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background check and drug test may be required.
• Vaccination records may be requested for medical interpreting.
• Primarily in-person appointments; occasional remote work possible.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services as an independent contractor for in-person appointments.
• Assist students in schools and patients in hospitals, among other settings.
• Help communities access services by interpreting across medical, educational, social, and legal contexts.
• Maintain professionalism and adhere to client-specific requirements when interpreting.

Lango is looking for fluent bilinguals to provide interpreting services as independent contractors! You can serve your community in various ways, such as by helping students in schools, or patients in hospitals. Professional language services are a great way to break down barriers and help multicultural communities get access to the services they deserve!

Requirements

• Must be fluently bilingual in English and at Portuguese.
  • If you do not have proof of professional interpreter training, you will be required to pass a language test across English and your target language.
• Must have US i-9 work authorization.
• Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Willing and able to provide a background check and drug test.
• Willing and able to provide MMR, Varicella, Covid, and Flu vaccination records,if interested in medical interpreting.
• Willing and able to primarily attend in-person appointments.
• Professional training/experience preferred, but not required.

*This is independent contracting work. You will be an independent contractor, and responsible for providing requirements such as the drug test, background check, etc. yourself.
