Job summary

AAA United States, Inc. in Portland, OR partners with a premier West Coast shipyard to build Jones Act compliant barges and related vessels. This welding role emphasizes fabrication of heavy steel components and precision assembly for large ships.

You will read blueprints, set up welding equipment, perform production welding in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions, and ensure weld quality through inspection and safe work practices.

Qualifications

• Weld structural steel and certify with 1/16” flux core wire in all positions.
• Pass tests including fillet welds and groove welds on 1" plate (2G, 3G, 4G).
• Strong math skills, fractions, and tape measure reading.
• Ability to read blueprints and follow instructions with safety mind-set.

Responsibilities

• Tack and fit steel components together for final welding.
• Set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform production welding on heavy steel components.
• Weld and fit in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Read blueprints and execute precise layout and fitting work.
• Inspect completed welds for quality and spec compliance.
• Remove slag and finish welds with attention to detail.
• Troubleshoot minor welding equipment issues as needed.
• Follow all safety standards and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with a team to maintain quality.
