Job summary

AAA United States, Inc. has partnered with a Portland, Oregon shipyard that builds large Jones Act compliant vessels, seeking experienced welders.

You will tack and fit steel, set up welding equipment, read blueprints, and weld in all positions. Candidates must pass tests on 1" plate, have strong math skills, and be able to work safely with cutting torches. Relocation assistance is available; willingness to travel/relocate to Portland is required.

Qualifications

• Weld structural steel and become certified using 1/16” flux core wire in all positions.
• Pass weld tests including fillet welds and groove welds on 1" plate.
• Strong math and measurement skills, including fractions and tape measures.
• Operate a hand-cutting torch efficiently and produce quality cuts.
• Blueprint reading and steel layout experience; follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Tack and fit steel components for final welding.
• Set up and operate welding equipment safely.
• Perform production welding on heavy steel components.
• Assemble and disassemble steel components.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Read blueprints for layout and fitting.
• Inspect welds for quality and compliance.
• Remove slag and finish welds with attention to detail.
• Troubleshoot welding equipment issues as needed.
• Follow all safety standards and work as part of a team.
