SUMMARY:

The Portfolio Manager plays a vital role in managing and overseeing a portfolio of commercial loans. This position is responsible for maintaining the quality and profitability of the loan portfolio, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • 15% Oversee and manage a portfolio of commercial loans, ensuring timely payments and addressing delinquent accounts. Monitor loan performance to identify potential risks or deteriorating credit quality. Ensure plan to payment discussions are notated in Sigma reporting.

  • 15% Analyze financial statements and conduct credit reviews of existing borrowers to ensure ongoing creditworthiness. Recommend restructuring or modifications to loans when needed.

  • 10% Responsible for managing the exception process for the assigned portfolio. Review outstanding exceptions weekly to ensure exceptions are cleared in a timely manner. Ensure that quality notes are put in the exception report. Manage the weekly exception reporting to regional management.

  • 10% Monitor exceptions to make sure that there are no loan processing errors on the front end that may be the cause of unnecessary exceptions after loan closing and review.

  • 5% Responsible for monitoring and managing the maturing loan process including 30/45/60/90 guidelines for tracking progress of renewal and note input into the report. Manage bi-weekly maturing loan check in and ensure current notes added to Sigma reporting for all future maturing loans 90 or less until maturity.

  • 5% Responsible for reviewing the maturing loans weekly and alerting management for any maturities that are approaching or past maturity. Manage the reporting weekly that is sent to lending staff, as well as bi-weekly report that is sent to regional management.

  • 5% Maintain strong relationships with commercial clients, serving as a point of contact for loan-related inquiries. Work closely with clients to understand their financial needs and provide tailored solutions.

  • 10% Assist in the underwriting process by analyzing credit risks for new loans. Review loan applications and collaborate with Business Development Officers and Credit Officers to review the borrower's credit worthiness and identify ways to structure loan agreements.

  • 5% Oversee the construction reporting process to ensure that notes reflect the current progress of the project. Assist with the construction inspections, as appropriate.

  • 5% Prepare regular reports on the performance of the loan portfolio, including risk assessments and loan status. Maintain accurate documentation for all loans within the portfolio, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Assist in audits or reviews conducted by internal and external auditors.

  • 5% Ensure the portfolio adheres to relevant regulatory standards, such as Basel III, Dodd-Frank, or other industry-specific regulations. Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that impact commercial lending practices.

  • 5% Collaborate with Credit Analysts, Loan Officers, and Senior Management to ensure effective portfolio management.

  • 5% Support the development of junior team members and provide training where necessary.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting with 5 years of commercial lending, credit analysis, or loan portfolio experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow analysis, and credit metrics.

  • Knowledge of commercial lending regulations and banking laws.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients and internal partners.

  • Experience in risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and problem loan resolution.

  • Knowledge with loan management software and financial analysis tools.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in loan documentation, risk assessments, and reporting.

  • Ability to resolve complex issues related to problem loans or deteriorating credit quality.

  • Skill in making informed decisions about loan structures, modifications, and risk management.

  • Strong customer service skills to foster and maintain client relationships.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.
